Rules for Riding

Follow these simple guidelines and enjoy your trip!

  • Have your ticket, pass or money ready when getting on the bus.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are prohibited on METRO buses.
  • Headphones or earbuds are required when using audio equipment.
  • Seats at the front of the bus are reserved for older adults and persons with disabilities.
  • Remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop and never stick any part of your body out the windows.
  • Please use caution when entering or exiting the bus. Cars do not stop for METRO buses like they do for school buses.
  • No smoking, vaping, nicotine, or tobacco products of any kind on METRO  vehicles and property.
  • No unauthorized solicitation, loitering, or gambling.
  • No fighting, horseplay, profanity, or abusive language.
  • No harassing other passengers, METRO staff, contractors, or representatives.
  • No skateboarding, bike riding, roller skating, hoverboards, or use of motorized vehicles.
  • No illegal possessions or consumption of alcohol.
  • No unauthorized weapons.
  • Photography and recording are prohibited on all METRO vehicles and properties.
  • Shirts and shoes are required.
  • Keep belongings with you at all times.
  • Pedestrians must stay out of bus lanes and other restricted areas.
  • No graffiti or damaging METRO property, vehicles and other facilities.
  • Pets are not allowed. METRO Direct and METRO SCAT/ADA vehicles will allow service animals to board all METRO and contracted vehicles. Pets or companion animals will not be transported on any METRO or contracted vehicles, caged or otherwise.

The ADA defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. Service animals perform some of the functions and tasks that the individual with a disability cannot perform for him or herself. “Seeing eye dogs” are one type of service animal, used by some individuals who are visually impaired.

The care or supervision of a service animal is solely the responsibility of his or her owner. The passenger and the service animal may be asked to exit the vehicle if the service animal’s behavior poses a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
