What is Travel Training?

Established in 2010, METRO's Travel Training Program is a free, hands-on instructional service designed to assist individuals and groups navigate the transit system safely and confidently.

Who can use travel training?

Anyone interested in learning more about how to ride METRO fixed-route buses can participate in Travel Training. Whether you're new to public transit or a seasoned rider looking for a helpful app demonstration, we're here to make your journeys easier. Join us in-person or virtually—whichever works best for you!

What trainings are offered?

One-on-One Training: Participants receive personalized guidance tailored to their needs and goals. Trainers help with route planning, paying fares, and hands-on practice navigating the transit system, all with support from a Mobility Specialist. Select training aspects are available virtually.

Group Training and Presentations: METRO offers group training with the same quality instruction in a collaborative setting. Sessions can include METRO service presentations, facility tours, and schedule reading, tailored to your needs. Select aspects are available virtually. Contact us to schedule a customized group session.

METRO Friends of Transit: METRO is proud to offer a train-the-trainer program where agencies, businesses and more gain the skills necessary to train their clients. Please reach out and we are more than happy to provide further details and benefits of the program.

Paratransit Training: While traditional Travel Training focuses on METRO Direct (Fixed-Route) services, we're also here to help if you need an overview of METRO Select or METRO ADA services for individuals or groups.

Mobility Device Overview: This training includes support on how to comfortably access METRO's services and use accessible features utilizing your current mobility device.

Outreach: METRO is committed to being a valuable community partner. We offer information tables, presentations, and open office hours to support and empower individuals seeking to learn more about METRO transit options. How does it work?

A Mobility Specialist will conduct an assessment to determine the options available based on your needs, abilities, and goals. Travel training can last from one day to several weeks or longer as it is customized to help you gain the skills necessary to utilize METRO services. Any questions? What will travel training cost me?

Travel Training is free while training with a METRO mobility specialist.
