METRO enhances people’s lives through programming, partnerships, and community development.
The arts are one way we can showcase and enrich our communities. METRO's Art in Transit programming supports arts in numerous ways by creating spaces for public art at our facilities, on shelters, surrounding spaces near bus stops, on buses, with sponsorships, and by partnering with the communities we serve.
METRO mentors interns on public art, hires artists to create artistic spaces, highlights local artists at the transit center and on social media, and we employ quite a few creative team members who work to make METRO and its community shine in artistic pursuits, personally and professionally.
MEET THE ARTISTS
Matt Miller, Muralist
Matt Miller is a local artist, specializing in murals. You have seen his work around the Akron area and we guarantee you have always noticed it. Matt created a mural for METRO's new Maintenance & Operations Facility, opening in 2026. To learn more about Matt and see more of his art visit Matt's website.
Kadin Chin, University of Akron
Kadin Chin, is a graphic design graduate from the University of Akron. He illustrated a series of artworks for the Robert K. Pfaff Transit Center and a fully wrapped bus featuring his designs. His illustrations highlight animals native to Summit County using public transit and navigating the kinds of challenges both new and experienced riders may face. After graduating, Kadin hopes to pursue a career in video game graphic design.
Sage Bishop, University of Akron
Sage Bishop is an Art student at the University of Akron. This year, they had the opportunity to design a bus shelter utilizing graphic design and 3D elements. Their design is inspired by oranges, cream, and cake. Sage currently works with students at the NIHF STEM Middle School, and in their spare time, they enjoy making jewelry, painting, and printmaking. Sage plans to graduate in 2027 and pursue a career in art education.
